Are you currently exercising? Why wait till Jan 1st to start? No matter the workout program, start now and build a head of steam going into the new year.
Are you making healthy food decisions? Everything in moderation – we know holiday parties and family gatherings will be accompanied with ample amounts of food. Enjoy them. Don’t deprive yourself. BUT, use good judgement between such get-togethers. Christmas and New Year’s are a week apart. Don’t make this a 7-day binge.
If you are exercising/eating healthy, are you seeing the results you want? If yes, keep it up. You can do it. If not, don’t keep it up. I don’t mean give up and scrap your workouts, but somethings gotta give. A very good definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results. Read that again. Change isn’t change until there’s change.
Keep perspective on what’s important. Health and fitness is important to me, but I don’t let it interfere with family, coaching, time with friends, my church activities, etc. Some people think I just workout all day because I’m a personal trainer. I do spend a lot of time at the gym, but my workouts are often kept to 45-60 minutes. I know you have a busy life, but fitness can and should be a part of the big picture. 30 minutes per day isn’t too much to ask.
Watch the television show The Office. And not just one episode, give it a season and thank me later. Laughter is great for you. (As I said, random)
On a similar note, take a chill pill. Enjoy life and give thanks. Are you homeless? Starving? Without clothing? If so, my prayers are for you. But I assume most of you don’t have such problems. Sure, we all have “problems”, but keep perspective. Slow down and smell the roses. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Enjoy each day for what it is and what it can offer. Make the most of what you have. Don’t waste time dwelling on what you don’t have, or wish you did. (Enough clichés for you?)
Set some goals for 2011. Write them down. Make them realistic, but don’t limit yourself. Give yourself a time frame to achieve them. Whether it takes a week, month, or the entire year, make a plan and execute it.
With all that said, finish 2010 strong. Make these next couple weeks awesome and carry that over into the new year. Whether its fitness, strength, weight loss, or any other endeavor, attack it with all that’s in you.
