Training Regardless

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Mine has been a memorable one.

Played my first tackle football game in nearly nine years. We came up a little short, but had a blast busting heads with twenty or so of my newfound brothers.

For those not around me much, this is my first year as part of the Iowa Eagles football team. Can’t say I ever thought I’d play the game competitively again, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be an athlete once more.

My background is in basketball, so this has been a new challenge. Each week of practice, however, has been a fun learning experience. And like I said earlier, my new brothers can’t be beat.

With all that said…I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. Hamstring is sore. Shoulder is sore. General bumps and bruises. But I don’t regret any of it. Every player out there today will wake up tomorrow hurtin’ a bit, that’s part of the game.

I’ll probably take it easy, sure. But preparation for next week is already on my mind.

It’s tough to lift my right arm overhead currently, so I’ll have to modify my workouts a bit. But that’s the whole point of this story. Just because one part of me is out of commission doesn’t mean I can’t train.

I’ll find plenty of things that I CAN do, and still get after it. Legs hurt? Work your arms. Arms hurt? Work the legs. There’s no excuse.

If the printer in your office stopped working, would you close the whole business till it got fixed? Of course not. You’d find other tasks and work around your little “injury”.

Take charge of your life.

Focus on what you can do, and not on what you can’t. (this applies to everything, not just training)

Stop making excuses.

Train hard. Train smart.
