Memories, Balance, and What the Heck is Oola?

Last weekend was an incredible one.

Really hope you can say the same…at least from time to time.

I had the opportunity to join some friends and family for the 2015 Market to Market Relay Iowa event – a 74 mile journey from Jefferson to Des Moines.

The weather was beautiful. Our pace was quite good (we finished 33rd). We laughed, and then laughed some more. Absolute good times had by all.

Then I had the chance to join a great friend for his wedding reception that evening.  Beautiful couple celebrating a beautiful love.

And Mother’s Day. It was a whirlwind of a weekend, but had the chance to spend a few meals and hours as a family. Time together is the biggest treat we share.

So, yeah.  That was my weekend.  There was more to it, including basketball highlights, sudden death golf championships, and indoor s’mores. 🙂

I share these memories because I hope you can find these moments, and days, and weekends in your own life.  It was a tremendously full few days.  Weekends like that don’t come around all the time.  But when they do, can you really enjoy and appreciate them?  How about the sights, sounds, and people?

If we have the opportunity to chat and consult in person, we would invariably get to the subject of reading for personal growth.

I’m a firm believer that “books are a man’s best friend,” as the late Dr. Ed Cole wrote many years ago.

We often discuss developing the body, mind, and spirit within our gym and training business.  They all play a role in optimal health.

Today’s memories and message are a reflection of mindset.  One that needs to be sought and developed.

We don’t just wake up one day and decide to be absolutely happy and enjoy the moment.  While some people do have a positive disposition, it requires an intentional effort to foster this attitude.  And it certainly takes work, day in and day out, if you’re not predisposed to a positive environment and attitudes.

I’d like to offer some suggestions of reading to get you started on your own journey.  This may or may not unfold into a book of the month club, but it would certainly behoove you to be reading a book (or more) every month.

Average people stop reading after they graduate.

Let’s not be average.
